Everything lives in Slack. This is a short guide to setting it up and using it day to day.
Get started
- Add Slackbound to Slack. You need to be allowed to install apps in your workspace.Add to Slack
- Open the Slackbound App Home. In Slack, open Apps, choose Slackbound, and go to the Home tab. Setup happens there.
- Create an address. Pick a name like
supportand the channel it should land in. You get a free address on a Slackbound subdomain, for examplesupport@acme.slkb.app. - Send a test email to that address. It appears in the channel as a new thread within seconds.
- Add teammates to the channel. Anyone in the channel can read the thread. People who reply by email take a seat.
Replying to customers
Reply in the thread like any other Slack message and Slackbound sends it as an email in the same conversation, from the address the customer wrote to. Your Slack name is used as the sender name.
- Replying claims the conversation for you if nobody has claimed it yet.
- Files you attach to your Slack reply are attached to the email. Attachments customers send appear in the thread.
- If an email cannot be delivered, the thread shows the failure and a button to retry.
Claim, done and snooze
Each thread has controls so a channel works as a shared inbox.
- Claim a conversation to tell the team you are handling it. Replying in the thread claims it automatically; Take over reassigns it to you.
- Done marks it handled. A new email from the customer reopens it.
- Snooze hides it from your attention until a time you choose.
Internal notes
Start a message in a thread with // and it stays in Slack. Nothing is sent to the customer, so you can ask a teammate for help in the same thread.
// can someone check the upload logs?
Domains
Every workspace starts with a free subdomain. To send and receive on your own domain, add it from the App Home, then create the DNS records Slackbound shows you at your DNS provider. Slackbound checks the records and tells you when the domain is ready.
- Receiving needs the MX record. Sending may need additional records, which the App Home lists.
- DNS changes can take a while to spread. Slackbound keeps checking.
- You can route different addresses on the same domain to different channels, or catch everything with a catch-all.
Health alerts
Once a day Slackbound checks your Slack connection and each domain's DNS. If something is broken, for example an MX record disappeared or Slackbound was removed from a channel, the person who installed Slackbound gets a direct message explaining what to fix. You get one message per problem, not a daily reminder.
Seats and billing
- A seat is a Slack teammate who has sent email through Slackbound. Reading and discussing is free.
- The Free plan includes 2 seats. When a third teammate tries to send, they are asked to upgrade first.
- Workspace admins manage the plan on the billing page: upgrade to Pro, update the payment method, or download invoices.
- You sign in to the website with Slack. Admins are the person who installed Slackbound and your Slack workspace admins and owners.
Getting help
Email support@slackbound.com and include your workspace name. For incidents, check the direct message Slackbound sent to the installer first, as it usually names the fix.
